St. Johnsbury, VT — On October 15th, 2007 the Borough of Kenai, Alaska awarded microDATA a contract to deploy an onsite E9-1-1 ALI database management system (DBMS), including subscriber record aggregation capability. Kenai’s 9-1-1 system consists of one primary site, three remote sites and a back-up site supporting over 52,000 residents. Previously, Kenai had relied on an off-site ALI DBMS managed through a service provider, but looked for a new system that would grant them full control of their ALI database that now exceeds 40,000 records. Two challenges drove their decision to find a new solution: the desire to increase data accuracy, and the desire to install an onsite ALI database that possessed the ability to validate addresses against their GIS database, thus placing GIS at the heart of their call handling system.

With a superior set of database management tools, microDATA’s xALI DBMS (ALI database management system) affords Kenai not only more control of their data, but since it will be combined with a deployment of x9GIS (microDATA’s GIS Database Management System), the system enables Kenai to achieve their goal of validation against the GIS database. “We are excited to be able to put the power of our integrated and GIS centric-solution to work for Kenai, Alaska,” said Christine McMullen, VP of Business Development at microDATA. “Empowering our customers with NG9-1-1 solutions that seamlessly and fluidly manage data on demand is a core focus at microDATA.”

Other benefits Kenai Peninsula Borough may realize through deploying the xALI DBMS and x9GIS solutions include:

  • A significant reduction of recurring costs by bringing ALI database management in-house;
  • Increased accuracy in the ALI database, with more control of edits and timeliness of edits;
  • Telco Service Order Inputs (SOIs) processing simplified: Telcos can upload SOIs via the web, review their error and statistic files, and generate daily reports of their activity in real-time;
  • Seamless transition from their current ESRI-based enterprise GIS database to microDATA’s ESRI ArcGIS Server 9.2-based x9GIS data management tools;
  • Ability for other county, town or state stakeholders to validate addresses against the Kenai ALI Database; and,
  • The ability to migrate from the Telco tabular MSAG to a Spatial MSAG™, thus eliminating redundant work in multiple databases and ultimately time and errors by duplicating efforts.

Kenai Borough expects to go live with their system in the first quarter of 2008.
