St.Johnsbury, VT —microDATA has changed its name to microDATA 911 – a move that reflects the company’s expanded suite of software and services for the 911 industry.

The name change was announced by Christine McMullen, Vice President of the Business Development Group at microDATA, which was established in 1982 with roots in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Over the years the company has become a leading provider of 9-1-1 mapping software and Internet Protocol (IP)-based data technologies to public safety organizations throughout the United States.

“We’re known for having the best maps in the industry, but today that is just half the story,” said Ms. McMullen.  “Now we provide complete Map-Centric call handling with integrated IP-based telephony…along with real time statistical displays, spatial crime analysis, emergency notification systems and Spatial Automatic Call Distribution (ACD).”

microDATA goes to the next level and offers mobile mapping, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) integration and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) capabilities.  This is on top of its GIS and Automatic Location Information (ALI) database management systems and services.

Even the ALI DBMS has evolved to the point where microDATA can help Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) take this traditional telephone company maintenance function in-house.  In-house ALI DBMS provides PSAPs far greater control of vital location data and can save hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“We’ve come a long way from data management and maps, and having GIS at the end of our name is too limiting.   It creates the wrong perception amongst potential customers.  We provide call handling now and our new logo reflects the change by embedding the 911 into the “O” of microDATA,” said Ms. McMullen.

The recent moves by the 9-1-1 industry to embrace IP (often referred to as Voice over IP, or VoIP) is good news for microDATA.  It has been providing the industry with a completely integrated solution that shares information over IP since 1998.  The latest version – known as the Map-Centric X-Solution – has been years in development and offers an impressive array of capabilities.

“We never forget that we are in the business of helping people save lives and property.  The X-Solution™’s functionality and features are designed to enhance performance by call takers and responders, while never sacrificing reliability.  And, our customers can rest assured that the solution is 100% microDATA engineered,” said Ms. McMullen.

In order to provide hands-on demonstrations of its software, microDATA has built a full scale demonstration PSAP with three call taker positions.  Named the 911 Solutions Center, it is used to simulate the PSAP environment and to show prospective customers how the integrated X-Solution works in call handling, dispatch and administration.  The Center played a key role in microDATA recently being contracted by the Vermont Enhanced 911 Board to install and maintain a new statewide, Next Generation Enhanced 911 system for the entire state of Vermont.

microDATA is based in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and has regional offices in Kentucky, Michigan, Rhode Island and Washington.
